Community Corner: Deal signed for purchase of the Meredosia power plant
March 1, 2013
In late 2011, the Meredosia Energy Center (MEC) closed its doors. At the time, Ameren Energy Resources pledged to work with the Alliance to make portions of the MEC available to the FutureGen 2.0 project. Ameren Energy Resources fulfilled that pledge when a contract was executed for the sale of a portion of the MEC to the Alliance in January 2013.

FutureGen Alliance Affirms Morgan County as the Preferred CO2 Storage Site for FutureGen 2.0

The FutureGen Alliance today affirmed that Morgan County will remain the preferred location for a carbon dioxide (CO2) storage site and that the Alliance will no longer maintain alternate sites in Christian and Douglas Counties. Recent geologic testing and engineering studies have confirmed that the Morgan County site is an excellent location for CO2 storage.

FutureGen Alliance Closes Deal Returning Mattoon Land to Coles Together

The FutureGen Alliance announced today it has finalized the sale of the land originally purchased from Coles Together for the original FutureGen project. The conclusion of this transaction will allow Coles Together to continue to pursue economic development opportunities for the site and the Alliance will redirect funds from the sale to the FutureGen 2.0 project in Morgan County.

FutureGen 2.0 Geologic Characterization Well Successfully and Safely Completed

The FutureGen Alliance announced today it has successfully completed drilling the characterization well at the FutureGen 2.0 carbon dioxide (CO2) storage site in Morgan County, and that preliminary data indicates that the local Illinois geology is suitable for CO2 storage.

The FutureGen Alliance announced today that it is negotiating an option to purchase portions of the Meredosia Energy Center from Ameren Energy Resources Company, LLC (AER), the holding company for merchant generation for Ameren Corporation (NYSE: AEE).

FutureGen Alliance Board of Directors to Meet in Morgan County, Illinois

The FutureGen Alliance has announced that it will hold a two-day meeting of its board of directors in Morgan County May 3 and 4. The Alliance will also host an open house on Tuesday, May 3 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at its new offices at 73 Central Park Plaza in Jacksonville.

FutureGen Alliance announces creation of FutureGen Citizens’ Board

The FutureGen Alliance has announced that it has created the FutureGen Citizens’ Board. The Board, which held its first meeting on March 30 in Jacksonville, will serve as a means to convey community feedback to the FutureGen Alliance on plans for geologic storage of carbon dioxide (CO2) and the related visitors and training facilities of the FutureGen 2.0 project.
