Membership in the FutureGen Industrial Alliance, Inc is open to U.S. and international companies that produce coal or electricity from coal as a significant business activity. Alliance members will benefit from first-hand experience in the most advanced coal-fueled electricity generation technology development project in the world.

The U.S. Secretary of Energy, Samuel Bodman, recognized the leadership Alliance members are providing by stating, that the FutureGen public-private partnership "places the Alliance members among the world's most responsible and forward-thinking coal and energy companies."
