Scott N. Smith

Scott N. Smith is vice president of Generation Business Services for American Electric Power (AEP). He is responsible for the Generation organization's business functions, including accounting and finance, business planning and contract administration.
Prior to his current position, he was chief risk officer for AEP from 2001 to 2005, responsible for enterprise-wide risk and insurance management, including oversight of commodity, operational, credit, interest rate and currency risk across all business units and functional areas, and enterprise-wide security.
Smith previously was vice president of risk management for Global Consumer Bank, a division of Citigroup. Before joining Citigroup in 1995, Smith was vice president of risk management for First Fidelity/First Union. Earlier, he was a national bank examiner for the U.S. Treasury Department. He served as a captain in the U.S. Army and worked as an engineer during his military service.
He serves on the finance advisory council for Ohio University. He is a former member of the board of directors of the Committee of Chief Risk Officers and is a member of the Global Association of Risk Professionals. Smith earned a bachelor’s degree in finance from Drexel University and also received an associate degree in business administration from Valley Forge Military College.
